³⁸ They will be my people,^(A) and I will be their God. ³⁹ I will give them singleness^(B) of heart and action, so that they will always fear^(C) me and that all will then go well for them and for their children after them. ⁴⁰ I will make an everlasting covenant^(D) with them: I will never stop doing good to them, and I will inspire^(E) them to fear me, so that they will never turn away from me.^(F)

¹⁵ For this reason Christ is the mediator^(A) of a new covenant,^(B) that those who are called^(C) may receive the promised^(D) eternal inheritance^(E)—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.^(F)

²⁴ to Jesus the mediator^(A) of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood^(B) that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.^(C)

Benediction and Final Greetings

²⁰ Now may the God of peace,^(A) who through the blood of the eternal covenant^(B) brought back from the dead^(C) our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep,^(D)

⁹ “I now establish my covenant with you^(A) and with your descendants after you ¹⁰ and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you—every living creature on earth. ¹¹ I establish my covenant^(B) with you:^(C) Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.^(D)”

¹² And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant^(E) I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come:^{(F) 13} I have set my rainbow^(G) in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. ¹⁴ Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow^(H) appears in the clouds, ¹⁵ I will remember my covenant^(I) between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.^{(J) 16} Whenever the rainbow^(K) appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant^(L) between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”

¹⁷ So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant^(M) I have established between me and all life on the earth.”

⁸ But Abram said, “Sovereign Lord,^(A) how can I know^(B) that I will gain possession of it?”^(C)

² Then I will make my covenant between me and you^(A) and will greatly increase your numbers.”^(B)

³ Abram fell facedown,^(C) and God said to him, ⁴ “As for me, this is my covenant with you:^(D) You will be the father of many nations.^{(E) 5} No longer will you be called Abram^[a]; your name will be Abraham,^[b](F) for I have made you a father of many nations.^{(G) 6} I will make you very fruitful;^(H) I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you.^{(I) 7} I will establish my covenant^(J) as an everlasting covenant^(K) between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God^(L) and the God of your descendants after you.^{(M) 8} The whole land of Canaan,^(N) where you now reside as a foreigner,^(O) I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you;^(P) and I will be their God.^(Q)”

⁹ Then God said to Abraham, “As for you, you must keep my covenant,^(R) you and your descendants after you for the generations to come.^{(S) 10} This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised.^{(T) 11} You are to undergo circumcision,^(U) and it will be the sign of the covenant^(V) between me and you. ¹² For the generations to come^(W) every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised,^(X) including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner—those who are not your offspring. ¹³ Whether born in your household or bought with your money, they must be circumcised.^(Y) My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant.^{(Z) 14} Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised^(AA) in the flesh, will be cut off from his people;^(AB) he has broken my covenant.^(AC)”

¹⁵ God also said to Abraham, “As for Sarai^(AD) your wife, you are no longer to call her Sarai; her name will be Sarah.^{(AE) 16} I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her.^(AF) I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations;^(AG) kings of peoples will come from her.”

¹⁷ Abraham fell facedown;^(AH) he laughed^(AI) and said to himself, “Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old?^(AJ) Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?”^{(AK) 18} And Abraham said to God, “If only Ishmael^(AL) might live under your blessing!”^(AM)

¹⁹ Then God said, “Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son,^(AN) and you will call him Isaac.^[c](AO) I will establish my covenant with him^(AP) as an everlasting covenant^(AQ) for his descendants after him. ²⁰ And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers.^(AR) He will be the father of twelve rulers,^(AS) and I will make him into a great nation.^{(AT) 21} But my covenant^(AU) I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you^(AV) by this time next year.”^(AW)

²⁶ He said, “If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep^(A) all his decrees,^(B) I will not bring on you any of the diseases^(C) I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals^(D) you.”
